The starting point of the project is the estate of the bilingual writer Janko Messner (1921–2011) from Koroška/Carinthia, currently held as 38 first-sighted boxes deposited at the Robert Musil Institute for Literary Research / Carinthian Literature Archive. The extensive estate materials relate not only to Messner’s literary works, but also include journalistic, political and essayistic texts, scripts, translations, letters, life documents and works by third parties. Through his diverse activities, Janko Messner was a widely networked literary and cultural mediator — a multiplier and politically committed figure who left traces across the literary, cultural and political landscape of Carinthia. Based on a discussion with a representative of Carinthian and Carinthian Slovenian literature, the project encourages audiences to reflect on over 100 years of supra-regional cultural networking and solidarity.
